Wisepill Technologies has won the DTI 2011 Technology Award in the catogory of small businesses.

The purpose of the dti Technology Awards is to raise awareness on the benefits of using technology to improve the competitiveness of enterprises. The awards recognise individuals and organisations that contributed towards technology development and innovation in South Africa. They are also aimed at inspiring and encouraging creativity and technological innovativeness amongst business people by rewarding those that make use of technology to advance their business.

Ricci Marshall, director and owner of Wisepill Technologies accepted the award on behalf of Wisepill: "We are very honored to receive this prestigious award from the DTI. Our focus has been on providing innovative products and service excellence in the field of medication adherence. Dr. David Bangsberg is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard School of Medicine and is the director of the Center for Global Health at Massachusetts General Hospital, of the International Programs at the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard, and of the International Program for the Harvard University Center for AIDS Research. He recently reflected on his work with the Mbarara University of Science and Technology in Uganda saying that “the role of academic institutions both locally and globally is twofold: to come up with innovative interventions to prevent and treat the world’s greatest diseases and to train the next generation of leaders.”

"The major barrier to successful adherence and retention in care in poor regions is largely structural and economical,” as experienced with Real-time adherence and the Wisepill device in patients taking antiretroviral therapy (ART) in rural Uganda. Dr. Jessica Haberer, who’s been working on that project and on wireless technology for ART adherence monitoring for several years, shared practical insights on the roll-out of this technology in the GHDonline community.)

The CML Compliance Alliance programme is a collaboration between Bristol-Myers Squibb and Evalan. Bristol-Myers Squibb is a pharmaceutical company and supplies CML medication. Evalan is an innovation company that focusses on developing new services for the health care sector. Evalan provides technical support for the use of the special electronic medication dispensers and the reminder messages service.
